Publishing Tips

Over the forthcoming months, I’ll keep adding my publishing industry insights to this section. The tips will be geared to unpublished or lightly published  writers, writing for children or adults, who want to attract an agent or a contract with a traditional publisher. Each title is a link to an article.

If you feel any of these articles are useful, feel free to share any of them with attribution to me and a link to this website. Thank you!

Writing for Children

Thank you so much for visiting my website. Welcome!

I’m rebuilding and modernising this site as fast as I can! …The original one was started in 2002, consisted of 74 pages and was showing its age.

I write books of several kinds – picture books, science, stories for all ages, and craft books – and I illustrate some of them. I also give talks, workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions and work in residencies, and love helping people whenever possible. (In former lives, I was a high-school science, photography and art teacher, and a curator of natural history in a museum.)

The site has 4 aims:

  • To be a fun and useful place to visit.
  • To help children and adults develop a passion for books and the written word, and to encourage people of all ages to write, illustrate and be creative.
  • To provide information and tips for adults and children, beginners and experts, to help develop their writing and artwork skills for pleasure or publication.
  • To showcase my own books, ideas and techniques – which I also share by visits, public speaking and workshops.
